Day Two--A Whole Lot of Driving

First day at beach--North Shore

Running from a wave

Wannabe surfer Chris

It was our first full day in Hawaii and we decided we wanted to go to Pearl Harbor. We only had a little map from a tourist brochure, which wasn't very detailed. So, we got lost. Really lost. We ended up in the middle of nowhere, with only fields in sight. It was getting close to lunch time and we were pretty hungry. We came to a little store that looked as if it had been there since World War II. The sign out front said "Last stop for food." I told Chris that was just a ploy to get us to stop, so we should just keep going. Well, guess what, it was true. There was nothing beyond it, so we turned around and went back. We went inside and they only had fish. I don't eat anything that comes out of bodies of water, so we were out of luck. So, we drove some more and got a little more lost, then finally, drove into civilation. We had accidentally ended up at the North Shore. This is where people go for surfing and beaches more secluded than the crowded Waikiki beach near our hotel.

Without proper beach attire, there wasn't much we could do but walk along the shore. I'm not a big fan of sand, but I decided to stop caring whether or not there was sand in my shoes and just enjoy the sound of the ocean, the sun, the breeze, the landscape. We walked around some rocks and came upon a couple staring out into the water with great interest. They showed us what they were looking at....a giant sea turtle slowly making his way to shore. So cool! We tried to stay out of his sight while he made his approach. Just as he was getting close a family ran up to the edge of the water to take a look and startled him. Darn!!! So, I'm sorry to report, I don't have a photo of the giant turtle.
