Our second attempt to find Pearl Harbor went much more smoothly. We got there about 10 a.m. and stood in line for a little over an hour for tickets (which were free and well worth the wait). We were told they had run out of tickets at 10 a.m. the day before, so we were glad we had gotten lost, because we would not have made it. We were in group 24, which was set to begin at 1:30 p.m. We walked around the museum area for a bit after getting the tickets. Reading about what those brave souls went through while standing right there where everything happened really hit me harder than I thought it would.
A little overwhelmed by the exhibits, we decided to take a break and go get lunch. I felt badly for the people who had gotten there on a tour bus and had to sit and wait until their tour time...made me very thankful for our rental car. We drove around and got lost, ending up in a neighborhood where military families live. The homes were pretty nice, especially compared to most of the houses we had seen thus far. We found a shopping center that was geared toward the military. You had to show military I.D. to get into part of it, but not the food court. So, I got Subway and Chris got Popeyes. I met a guy in line at Subway from Owensboro, Ky. He said he couldn't wait to get out of Hawaii and high rent and back to his horse farm. By the way, the Lays potato chips in Hawaii aren't in the yellow bag. They're in a tropical-looking bag and say Maui Style. They taste like Lays in a yellow bag.
